Supporting Young Enterprise

A Shropshire IT business is providing vital backing to young entrepreneurs in the county by sponsoring an award at a special annual dinner.

Bosses at Bespoke Computing in Telford said they were ‘delighted’ to be supporting Young Enterprise at their event.

The dinner on May 15 at the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury will also mark the 50th anniversary of the scheme helping young people develop skills they need to succeed in business.

And this year Young Enterprise has the use of a marquee to fill with 50 tables instead of 30 to mark each year of its existence.

Chris Pallett, managing director of Bespoke Computing, said: “We were approached by the Young Enterprise organisation in Shropshire to become one of the sponsors of the annual dinner and are very pleased to be sponsoring the award for the best use of IT.

“I have always admired schemes like Young Enterprise for the work they do with young people.  It is even more important nowadays to get as much as experience as possible which could prove vital for a future career.

“Even if someone is not planning to go into business, the skills learnt by starting your own company as part of Young Enterprise can be used in other parts of your life.”

This year 27 teams are taking part in Young Enterprise by setting up companies.

And Barbara Rainford, a volunteer at Young Enterprise, said it was the most they had had.

She said the awards evening was always a very inspirational event with a fantastic atmosphere and that Shropshire was the only county in the country to hold a big awards ceremony of its kind.

“The young people involved are always very excited and often overwhelmed by the awards as they are the result of a lot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears getting a business off the ground and exhibiting at trade stands in Shrewsbury and Telford,” she added.

“It is an emotional and uplifting experience and we always leave feeling exceedingly proud of our young people.”

Mrs Rainford said they were delighted that Chris Pallett and Bespoke Computing were supporting the Young Enterprise event by sponsoring an award.

Young Enterprise was first launched in 1963 in Chatham, Kent and attracted 113 teenagers who set up eight student companies.

Last year it worked with 220,000 young people aged four to 25 years in 5,000 schools, colleges and universities with help from volunteers from 3,500 businesses.
