Of course you backup your important files on a regular basis already, don't you? Good. Here are five tips to make sure you're getting the most from those backups, check each one regularly because as your business changes so do your backup requirements.
Protect the right files - you can't recover what you haven't protected, are you 100% confident that you're backing up the data your business can't live without?
Don't duplicate your files - it is difficult to keep track on files if you have lots of files or lots of people using your files. If you don't need to back the same file up twice, don't!
Check your backups are running - it's great having a backup system but how do you know it works each day? What if it only backed up that first time when you set it up?
Have a recovery plan - it's great backing up your files every night but how do you get them back if the unexpected happens?
Test your recovery plan - make sure that the plan to get your files back works, don't leave it to chance and don't leave it to somebody else.
If you're not backing up your important files then you have a bit more of an issue, imagine if you experienced a disaster and lost all of your files. A disaster isn't just the obvious. What about fire, flood, theft, disgruntled staff, power surge, and war or terrorist action?
