Have you ever taken work away from the office to get something finished? You might have worked at the kitchen table or in a hotel - where is the most exotic place you have remotely worked? Take our survey.
With the business at your fingertips remote working becomes a really useful tool, but it’s too easy to take things for granted and even easier for a simple mistake or miscalculation to cause massive issues.
Here are our 7 hot tips for better remote working:
- Don’t advertise. A really obvious thing to say but so many people forget, do not leave your equipment on full public view in the car or in your hotel room.
- Encrypt. If the unfortunate does happen then would it not be a good idea to stop the thief from reading all of your important files? You can learn more about this with our article “has anyone seen my computer files?”.
- Backup. Despite the importance of your computer backups, people are still not doing this or do not protect the right files.
- Just enough. Where possible only take with you the files you need. If something happens then the embarrassment of losing 1 customer files is much less significant than losing 100 customer files.
- Avoid USB. Handy for moving files around but try to avoid USB memory sticks, these tiny portable devices are so easily lost.
- Protect. Make sure that your anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-spam subscriptions are installed, turned on and up-to date.
- Systems. With the right systems and the Internet it is possible to remotely work and access your important files from anywhere in the world without taking the files with you, reducing the need for encryption, backups, USBs and giving you total access to all of your files. You might already have the right systems but not realise it.
